The FIM Superbike World Championship race was in its final corners Saturday when leader Chaz Davies wrecked and fell off of his bike. The rider racing for second was right behind Davies, and didn’t have time to avoid running over him as he crashed. A local hospital diagnosed Davies with multiple injuries.
The race was at Misano World Circuit in Italy, and Davies was just barely ahead of fellow rider Jonathan Rea with three corners left in the race. Things happen so quickly in the video below that it’s hard to catch Davies being run over the first time you watch, but be warned in advance that a rider was injured in the video footage below.
An MRI showed that Davies sustained thorax trauma, a fractured vertebrae and a contusion of the left thumb in the crash, according to Fox Sports. Rea said in a post-race interview that he “had nowhere to go” when Davies wrecked and that he hoped Davies was OK.

The wreck took out Rea, too, and rider Tom Sykes went by from third to take the race win. Davies’ race team later tweeted that he’ll “observe a period of rest” before being reexamined ahead of the series’ next event.
