Xiaomi is set to unveil its first drone on Wednesday, but we may already know how much it will cost. The Mi Drone is apparently priced at $610 (4000 yuan) according to Bloomberg and its anonymous inside source.
That price should give Xiaomi a strong advantage against DJI, another Chinese firm that dominates the drone industry with its popular Phantom series. The Phantom 3 currently costs $799 and packs a 4K camera, which Xiaomi’s Mi Drone is expected to match. DJI also offers an even newer Phantom 4 with self-flying capabilities for a whopping $1,399.
It’s unclear if Xiaomi’s model will be able to match those autonomous features but, based on the rumored price, it seems unlikely. Even so, the Mi Drone is shaping up to be a pretty impressive device with a sleek design and a powerful camera. The company may also offer a special smart band that doubles as the controller, according to some reports.
Xiaomi’s drone will make its official debut tomorrow at a live event in China where we should learn the official price and availability. Check back then for all info on the Mi Drone and anything else the company might announce.
